There are no side effects of Yoga if done properly. Even if you do one posture more then the others, yoga balances everything within the body and don't harm you at all.
The two most important aspect of yoga are: no jerks and timings of inhaling,
exhaling and holding breathe.

Your health is what your physical body tells you. May it good or bad depends on a lot of factors..environment, psychological, eating habits and physical indulgence(exercise, sports, etc).

As for me, I'm in good shape. My health is at its best!

One can define health negatively, as the absence of illness, or positively, as fitness and well-being. Health also implies good prospects for continued survival.

I don't think that's your definition. :) You are quoting someone else' definition. What does health really mean to you?

I'll share mine. The best way is to define what is healthy to me. Aside from being free from any disease, being healthy means my breathing is normal & I feel energized and just ready for anything.

For me the two definitions that really mean health are...
"the level of functional and metabolic efficiency of an organism" and
the one given by WHO "state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity".

A really few good points mentioned above.
For me it is not that much technical but still effective. People practicing yoga regularly have better health, mentally and physically and this is good enough a reason to follow them.

1) Going with the flow: Yoga gets your blood flowing, which helps your circulation, which means you get more oxygen to your cells, which function better as a result. Healthier cells fight off better when you come under attack. If you get sick, you may not be sick for long.

2) Lymph Lesson: when you contract and stretch your muscles, move organs around, and come in an out of yoga postures, you increase the drainage of lymph. This helps the lymphatic system fight infection and dispose of toxins at the cellular level. Again, you're able to fight anything off stronger and more efficiently.

3) Fighting the worry worts: Yoga lowers cortisol levels, the stress hormone that can build up in our bodies. And we all know that an abundance of stress, compromises your immune system.

4)When you practice yoga, the stretching and relaxation helps to alleviate constipation, getting rid of those toxins that your body might otherwise hold on to. Ayurveda, a sister science to yoga, confirms that alot of illness is born by not getting rid of those toxins in the body, they build up over time and this leads to illness and even disease.
