The word nutrition is of high relevance in today’s world. We should be well aware of the nutritive requirements of our body. Nutrition is a combination of process of receiving and utilizing materials, needed for sustaining life. These processes not only maintain the function of the various parts of the body, but also ensure growth and renewal of its components.

Health depends to a large extend on nutrition, and nutrition on food. By food, is meant, any mineral taken into the body, which helps to maintain the normal body process. Of the four pillars, which are essential for a healthy life style, nutrition is one among the four pillars, the other three are sleep, exercise and positive attitude.

Our body gets the energy from the food, by digestion, absorption and assimilation of nutrients and elimination of waste materials. Even if we consume correct proportion of food, if the body processes are not going proper, then can the body be healthy? No, it can’t be.

Nutrients, if not taken in adequate amounts, lead to a disorder in the body’s metabolic processes. If we are taking nutrients in lesser amounts than the recommended allowances, lead to various diseases in the body. In present day world, diet is considered as the most important factor for promoting a good and healthy life style.

Foods that provide good nutrientsFood of the right kind in adequate quantities is the most powerful of all curative techniques. Natural foods , that are properly selected, free of pesticides, scientifically combined and administered, have got true remedial value for curing disease, by supplying the proper elements which preserve, the tissues from damage and putrefaction. A diet in which, there is abundance of these physical and regenerative elements, will surely bestow us with an increase in immunity power, great health, glowing skin, and a stress free mind.

Thus diet therapy is very important. It is both an art and a science.
Let me get back to the basic nutrients.

They are-

  1. Carbohydrates.
  2. Protein.
  3. Fat
  4. Vitamins
  5. Minerals
  6. Water.

The human body is formed of different nutrients, in the following proportions:

  • Carbohydrates- 1%
  • Mater- 63%
  • Vitamins and minerals- 7%
  • Proteins- 17%
  • Fats- 12%
